The
Swift County History Museum is located on the west edge of Benson
off of U.S. Highway 12. The museum is handicap accessible and
provides His & Her handicap bathrooms. The museum features
artifacts that depict the history of Swift County.
The
artifacts range from items brought to Swift County by the early
settlers to various exhibits depicting the railroad; schools;
churches; county government; businesses & industries; medical;
newspapers; authentic log cabin; United States Veteran exhibits;
tools used by men and women; and replicas – farms, school,
church, and grist mill.
Many
of the artifacts are displayed in period room settings –
dining room, living room, bedroom, general store, church, school,
etc. The museum also features decade exhibits for 1950s, 1960s,
1970s, 1980s, and 1990s.
Visitors
are invited to take a self-guided leisurely tour through the museum.
Staff are available to answer any questions. Visitors comment
that the museum is much larger than they envisioned and that the
exhibits are well put together with excellent labeling.
There
is no admission fee to tour the museum. Donations are encouraged.
The
museum & research library are open year round from 10:00 am
to 4:30 pm Tuesday – Friday and 10:00 am to 3:00 pm on Saturdays
from April 1-September 30. Closed on Saturdays from October-March.
Closed Sundays, Mondays, holidays and holiday weekends. |
